We've been talking about the uptick of streaming services by major studios coming soon. From Disney to NBCUniversal to WarnerMedia, Netflix has lasted the test of time in a realm dominated by cable subscriptions and AVOD platforms like YouTube. It's no wonder that their lack of hard numbers of streamers on their service has broadsided the industry over and over again. In an article by Tim Goodman on THR, Netflix has boasted unconfirmed numbers that drives the major studios
We often talk about high concept stories when it comes to the marketability of film projects. One of the most typical explanations to determine if a story is "high concept" is that it can be explained in one-to-three sentences, however, that alone does not typically make it high concept. An article by Steve Kaire on MovieOutline has a list of 5 criteria for a story to qualify as high concept (http://bit.ly/2DDtOgP), and we happen to agree. The criteria are: An Original and
January has been a whirlwind of a month so far! We just got back from a Daymond John seminar and have many new ideas on how to structure our business. On top of that, the trailer for the short film PROUD has just dropped! The Hooligans took to the set and filled the role as Script Supervisors, and then continued on to the Editing Room. The trailer just came out today so check it out! PROUD Trailer on Vimeo http://bit.ly/2sNbKuF There are other projects still on the line f
Happy New Year from the Hyde Hooligans!! It's about 5am, and I'm still up because I finally finished updating the website! I've separated the blog here from the website as it seemed to have its own look and feel to it that we wanted to keep. I should be sleeping, but I just couldn't help myself updating this as well since it's been so long since I've written anything. The website is our first huge accomplishment of the year just 4 days into 2019! Please visit and Bookmar
The Hooligans met with B Co Creative Agency today who has a lot more experience in marketing and branding than we do, and I must say WHEW are we happy we did!! It was such a fantastic melding of minds! To be clear, my intentions were for a formal introductory meeting to my team with theirs as I already knew them beforehand. One of the most fantastic happenings was that they knew all the questions we have been mulling over ourselves before we even mentioned them. To me, th
Us here at Hyde Hooligan Films fill our day with a lot. Like a lot a lot. Even during the holiday weekend, we've been building and creating to no end. It's just what we love to do! As such, some of us have recently started up our own pages so people can see us as we are (links below). We come from diverse backgrounds, but a huge similarity we share is that we all come from nothing. We don't come from money, we haven't ridden on someone else's coattails - we've built fro
I got to watch Errementari: The Blacksmith and the Devil last night while I was working. It is a Basque film that retells a classic fable about a blacksmith battling it out with a devil. In this movie, a blacksmith named Paxti has captured Sartael - a devil en route to claim his soul - and has secluded himself away from the townsfolk until one day a little girl named Usue accidentally stumbles into the scenario and unwittingly lets him out. Beware as there are: SPOILERS AH
One of the toughest moves I've made this year was to open my own production company quickly. I had mentioned to one of my business partners that I felt I incorporated prematurely as there was plenty of work that wasn't completed at the time. He assured me that the timing was right even if it didn't seem that way. Although I do agree with him in that a lot has changed since then, I still feel that playing "catch up" isn't the right way to go about it. I can also recognize
This is not really a review of the movie, but there are... SPOILERS AHEAD!! Whether you liked Predator or not for your own reasons, I found there was a huge similarity in the story that was akin to another movie that kept sticking out to me like a sore thumb the first time I watched it in theaters, and I haven't talked to anyone else who caught it yet. Were you able to catch it?? Here's a hint, it's an animated movie. Still no? Well, here you go... It was just like: Ah yes...
The Hooligans have headed back home after 4 days down at the American Film Market. As our first time there, we attended under the premise that we were there to learn. As mentioned in previous blogs here, we were completely humbled by the number of people that helped us out and are so very grateful for them! Did You Learn Anything? Ohhhh yeah we did! As I said, our goal was purely to network and educate ourselves on the market and the types of deals Distributors and Buyers
This picture was taken at a Panera Bread. It was such a catchy name that we don’t mind putting it up here. It’s after 1am here on Monday evening as we converge after Day 3 of our journey at AFM. Our meetings were fantastic and even landed a few others along the way. This trip has been a huge success towards what we wanted, and we are so ready to move forward when we get back home!! Today was filled much more with passersby that we struck conversations with alongside our set
The Hooligans have made it down to AFM (American Film Market) this year! It's our first time here, and in just 2 days we learned so much. From traversing the Loews Hotel floor-by-floor to hanging out on the Santa Monica Pier's Carousel for Cocktail Hour, our time in just 2 days have been phenomenal and eye-opening! Us Hooligans have always adopted a learning mentality to every situation that we've encountered and this was no different. We quickly understood the movement an
I feel like it's been forever since I've updated this thing. Actually, it has been, but we've been pushing forward like no tomorrow!! UPDATE TIME!! - Successfully edited my first feature film - Pulled Double Duty as Script Supervisor and Editor for a project - Trained another Script Supervisor - Finished the 10X Rule - Halfway through "Who is Michael Orvitz" the founder of CAA (really interesting book) - Advised and Mentored on Story Development for a few shorts and feature
After the train wreck of The First Purge, I really wanted a palette-cleanser and, well, I was up waiting for my laundry to finish anyway, so I took my chances on Netflix, and I came across this movie. Tau is a sci-fi thriller starring Maika Monroe, Ed Skrein, and Gary Oldman voicing the AI named Tau, directed by Federico D'Alessandro, and was released on June 29 on Netflix. Look out because there are... SPOILERS AHEAD!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! THE GOOD I thought this film ha
The Hooligans went to go see The First Purge tonight as we wanted something thriller-ish but also wanted to low-key make fun of while we watched it. In those respects, we had probably about a 70% success rate - not the making of fun of part but the thriller side. I won't even get into into that weird mid-credit TV spot they marketed into their own film (other than this time). The First Purge is a Blumhouse Production starring Y'lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, and Joivan Wade.
Welcome to Bloggerithms!! It's literally just my own fancy twist on the overused term: "blog". Since we incorporated, my work routine has been going non-stop. Although working from home can be great, there are some downsides to it. For instance, my daily routine has literally been wake up, slide over to my computer, work all day, sleep, repeat. This has been going every day for the past couple of months or so, even on weekends. I can't really remember the last time I too
The Hooligans went to go see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in theaters tonight! What a ride it was! First off, I'm going to state that for the past decade or so, I've turned more cinephile than bibliophile. Film has taken hold of my heart which is why I got into filmmaking. So, to be clear, I have not read any of the Jurassic Park novels so my take on this is purely from my perspective as a movie lover and movie maker. Fallen Kingdom had an interesting premise to continu
Hooligan V and I went to go check out TAG last night, and man was it a fun one! It's another movie to leave the kids at home for and enjoy with your buddies. TAG is inspired by a real group of friends that have played the same game of Tag for the past 30 years well into adulthood across the country. The movie stars Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Isla Fisher, Hannibal Buress, Jeremy Renner, and Leslie Bibb and is directed by Jeff Tomsic. From the get-go
There's not really many movies where I don't have something critical to say, but this one does it for me! I got to take my family out to see it after the Father's Day weekend rush. Here's a quick review of Incredibles 2 that premiered last week! At the opening of the film, there was this strange PSA from the actors about the animation taking 14 years to come out with a sequel but will be worth it in the long run. I thought it was an odd way to begin a film, but they weren'
Upgrade is the latest from Blumhouse written and directed by Leigh Whannell starring Logan Marshall-Green and Betty Gabriel and premiered on June 1. It’s an action, sci-fi, horror film set in the near-future where technology controls nearly all aspects of life. It follows a technophobe (Logan Marshall-Green) who is implanted with a computer chip that allows him to seek out revenge after becoming a quadriplegic. It was an action-packed ride in the sci-fi world, and we reco
